TO RECOGNIZE THE WONDERFUL MUSIC CAREER OF MARSHALL CHAPMAN, A NATIVE OF SPARTANBURG, TO WELCOME HER TO COLUMBIA AS PART OF THE THREE RIVERS MUSIC FESTIVAL, AND TO PROCLAIM FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2005, AS "MARSHALL CHAPMAN DAY" THROUGHOUT SOUTH CAROLINA IN HER HONOR.
Whereas, Marshall Chapman was born and raised in Spartanburg, graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1971, where she first began to perform with other nationally-known artists, and is a great purveyor of the cultural heritage of South Carolina through her music; and
Whereas, Ms. Chapman has achieved musical and literary success with her work over the past thirty years and continues to delight audiences with her performances; and
Whereas, her work has been praised by critics and writers around the world and she has brought great honor to the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she will perform in Columbia during the weekend of April 22-24, 2005, as part of the 2005 Three Rivers Music Festival; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to welcome her to Columbia, and publicly recognize and congratulate her for her extraordinary musical achievements. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize the wonderful music career of Marshall Chapman, a native of Spartanburg, welcome her to Columbia as part of the Three Rivers Music Festival, and proclaim Friday, April 22, 2005, as "Marshall Chapman Day" throughout South Carolina in her honor.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Marshall Chapman.
