A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

JOINING THE CAPITAL SENIOR CENTER OF COLUMBIA IN CELEBRATION OF ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF OFFERING THE SENIOR POPULATION OF RICHLAND AND LEXINGTON COUNTIES A RESOURCE FOR PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL FITNESS.

Whereas, the Capital Senior Center, located in Maxey Gregg Park in the Five Points corridor of Columbia, celebrates its tenth anniversary July 21, 2005; and

Whereas, the Center, in that ten-year history, has been a leader among such centers as a means for seniors to maintain a healthy lifestyle; and

Whereas, seniors from Richland and Lexington Counties take advantage of the ten different types of exercise programs, a full gym, and a host of educational classes and events targeting issues such as financial and estate planning and health care access and maintenance; and

Whereas, the Center's participants prove the truth of scientific studies revealing that seniors who take part in the physical and social activities of a senior center are less impaired in their daily lives than nonparticipating seniors; and

Whereas, while the mission to enhance the quality of life for its members is important in and of itself to the Capital Senior Center, the long-term and far-reaching effect is to lessen the impact of an increasingly aging population on the infrastructure of the health care industry; and

Whereas, it is an honor for the General Assembly to recognize a program whose efforts have so vitally affected the lives of this State's senior citizenry. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, join the Capital Senior Center of Columbia in celebration of its Tenth Anniversary of offering the senior population of Richland and Lexington Counties a resource for physical and social fitness.
