A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LANCE CORPORAL JULIE SMITH, OF HORRY COUNTY, UPON RECEIVING THE GOLD MEDAL AWARD AS THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, AND TO EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE FOR HER MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF HER COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Lance Corporal Julie Smith of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety has been named 2008 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the South Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

Whereas, available whenever help is needed, she responds faithfully to those who need help, and those she serves in her community know they can depend on her dedication; and

Whereas, always working hard to improve the quality of life in her community, Lance Corporal Smith gives of her personal time, as well as fulfilling her responsibilities on the job with professionalism and excellence; and

Whereas, from more than six hundred nominees entered for the award statewide, Lance Corporal Smith received the award because she has been recognized by her colleagues and those she serves, has been consistently superior in the performance of her duties, and has continued to grow in responsibilities and skills within her profession; and

Whereas, North Myrtle Beach claimed the winner of both the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and the Firefighter of the Year, which attests to the strength and skill of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly congratulate Lance Corporal Julie Smith for receiving the 2008 South Carolina Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Gold Medal Award and convey their appreciation for her faithful service to the citizens of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Lance Corporal Julie Smith, of Horry County, upon receiving the Gold Medal Award as the 2008 South Carolina Law Enforcement Officer of the Year from the South Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars, and express their deep gratitude for her meritorious service to the citizens of her community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lance Corporal Julie Smith.
