A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-1-141 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF DRIVER'S LICENSE DECALS BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EXEMPTED FROM THE STATE'S MANDATORY USE OF SEAT BELT PROVISIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 1, Chapter 1, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-1-141.    A driver who possesses a written verification from a physician that he is unable to wear a safety belt for a physical or medical reason, upon application to the department, must be provided a decal that must be affixed to his driver's license to indicate that he is exempted from the state's mandatory use of seat belt provisions."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
