A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE STUDENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND STAFF OF LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL IN LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THEIR SCHOOL'S RECOGNITION AS A NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL FOR 2006.

Whereas, the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina is pleased to honor Lexington High School of Lexington School District One on its being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education on September 22, 2006; and

Whereas, the National Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes K-12 schools with students who achieve at the highest levels or have made progress closing student achievement gaps; and

Whereas, the State Department of Education nominated Lexington High School for meeting the United States Department of Education's "schools where students score in the top ten percent on state assessments" criteria; and

Whereas, State Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum praised Lexington High School for creating an exciting environment where expectations are high, students are actively engaged in learning, teachers are creative in their approaches, and parents and community members are partners in academic success; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Principal B. Creig Tyler, the faculty and staff have consistently demonstrated their commitment to excellence and their love of the students of Lexington High School and their families; and

Whereas, all of the faculty and staff of Lexington High School worked together as a team, including the math, English, science, and social studies teachers who always give 110% and the school's dedicated administration, in order to achieve the highest honor the United States Department of Education can bestow; and

Whereas, Lexington School District One's largest high school is no stranger to winning prestigious awards; in fact, it was one of the State's first Palmetto Gold winners and has received an absolute rating of "Excellent" every year since the state report card's inception. The school's athletic teams, fine arts programs, academic teams, and ROTC program have also received regional and state recognition; and

Whereas, serving more than 2,300 ninth through twelfth grade students, this devoted group of Lexington educators should be commended for their tireless efforts towards making their school a model high school resulting in the ultimate honor of their school being named a National Blue Ribbon School; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause to recognize and honor Lexington High School on its outstanding educational success and express its appreciation for the excellence the school continues to achieve as it educates our youth and the State's most precious resource. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the students, teachers, administrators, and staff of Lexington High School in Lexington, South Carolina, on their school's recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2006.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lexington High School and Principal B. Creig Tyler.
