A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MRS. EMILY SMITH SCHROEDER FOR THIRTY-TWO YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH FOR HER MANY YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that, after thirty-two years of dedicated service, Mrs. Emily Smith Schroeder retired on November 17, 2006, from her position as senior administrative assistant with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources; and

Whereas, Mrs. Schroeder delivered capable, poised, and professional administrative support during her tenure with the Department's Marine Resources Division, Executive Office, and Law Enforcement Division, being named Employee of the Year by two of these in recognition of her excellence, integrity, and unselfish loyalty to the agency; and

Whereas, over the years she welcomed to the Marine Resources Center at Fort Johnson many dignitaries and honored guests, including governors, legislators, agency heads, and federal officials; and

Whereas, she planned and coordinated numerous formal and informal events, including dedications and receptions, that spotlighted the contributions of the Department of Natural Resources and featured foods and décor emphasizing the importance of the wildlife and fisheries resources of the great State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, she applied her considerable entertaining skills to support the fundraising efforts of the Harry R. E. Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, the nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing wildlife and marine resources conservation and education in South Carolina; and

Whereas, often with the able and loving help of her husband, Walter, she stamped these events with her unique style of gracious hospitality and set the tone for future undertakings of this kind; and

Whereas, based in her Charleston home, Emily Smith Schroeder hopes to enjoy her well-earned retirement with her husband, Walter, their daughter and son, and six grandchildren; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to convey to Mrs. Schroeder their deepest appreciation for her long years of distinguished service and leadership as an employee of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and for setting the bar high for those to follow her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Mrs. Emily Smith Schroeder for thirty-two years of dedicated service to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and to the people of South Carolina upon the occasion of her retirement, and wish for her many years of health and happiness in her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Emily Smith Schroeder and to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and its board.
