A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AIKEN PACERS GOLF TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2006 SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING ITS THIRD CONSECUTIVE NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S GOLF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S SUPERLATIVE PLAYERS, COACH, AND STAFF.

Whereas, on May 19, 2006, the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers crowned another excellent season by capturing the 2006 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship title--the third consecutive year in which the Pacers far out-paced their competition; and

Whereas, amid accolades such as "golf dynasty", the team's dominance of the collegiate golf world was attained through teamwork, dedication, tenacity, skill, and consistency; and

Whereas, in a clear demonstration of these talents and attributes at the May 19 playoffs, Head Coach Michael Carlisle and the top-ranked USC Aiken Pacers held off a last-minute charge by CSU Bakersfield to finish with a three-stroke team win; and

Whereas, with this nearly unprecedented championship skein, the Pacers became only the second team in the forty-four year history of Division II golf to grab three consecutive NCAA Championships; and

Whereas, having already battled heat, wind, and thunderstorms during their 2004 and 2005 championship rounds, the team proved at this year's playoffs, held on the grounds of The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia, that it can win under any weather conditions, contending with unseasonably cold temperatures and twenty mile an hour winds; and

Whereas, senior standout Scott Brown added to the luster of an already stellar team record by being presented with the Jack Nicklaus Award and being named the 2006 Division II Player of the Year and to the first team All-America squad. Teammates Dane Burkhart and Roberto Diaz were recognized for their outstanding play by being named to the second and third All-America teams, respectively; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing the noteworthy achievements of such exceptionally talented young athletes as the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers golf team for its outstanding 2006 season and for capturing its third consecutive NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship title, and honor the team's superlative players, coach, and staff.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers golf team.
