VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO COMMEND MR. GEORGE F. MORTON, CHAIRMAN OF THE LANCASTER COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTION COMMISSION, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives note that, after more than forty years of service, Mr. George F. Morton is retiring from the position of Chairman of the Lancaster County Registration and Election Commission; and
Whereas, he began his public service with the Lancaster County Election Commission, moving to the Lancaster County Registration and Election Commission when the Election Commission and the Registration Board were combined; and
Whereas, Lancaster County Registration and Election Commission Chairman for most of his forty years of service, George F. Morton during his tenure saw Lancaster County move from paper ballots to an optical scan system in the 1990's to the first use of electronic voting in 2002; and
Whereas, in recognition of his integrity, commitment, and exceptionally effective leadership, the State Election Commission named Mr. Morton the Election Official of the Year for the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, not limiting himself to only civil service to his State, George F. Morton during his career further proved himself a faithful and patriotic son of South Carolina and of his country through service in the United States Army, participating in World War II and the Korean War, in which he earned several awards, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and retiring as a major; and
Whereas, in recognition of his well-earned March 2007 retirement, his colleagues will honor this exemplary public servant with a celebratory event on Friday, March 30, 2007, in the Council Chambers. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Mr. George F. Morton, Chairman of the Lancaster County Registration and Election Commission, for his outstanding service upon the occasion of his retirement, and wish him much success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. George F. Morton.
