A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. LEON O'NEIL SMITH, VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF CONSOLIDATED CARGO CARRIERS, INC., UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM MANY YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives note that, after nearly twenty-three years of service, Mr. Leon O'Neil Smith is retiring from the position of Vice President and General Manager of Consolidated Cargo Carriers, Inc., a Midlands trucking company he helped form; and

Whereas, Consolidated Cargo Carriers, Inc., the wholly owned trucking and transportation subsidiary of Consolidated Systems in Columbia, is an industry leader in steel fabrication and processing for the construction and original equipment manufacturer markets; and

Whereas, Mr. Smith built the company into a twenty-five million dollar a year business with sixty-five employees and fifty company-owned trucks, and he expanded the company's operations by establishing satellite operations in Memphis, Tennessee; Jackson, Mississippi; and Terrell, Texas; and

Whereas, as a visionary leader, he saw the potential benefits of technology and how it improved safety and operational performance by utilizing satellite tracking for monitoring their trucks and compliance with safety regulations; and

Whereas, Leon O'Neil Smith looked beyond just the interests of Consolidated Cargo Carriers, Inc., by fully and efficiently using railroad capacity for corporate transportation savings; and

Whereas, under Mr. Smith's leadership, Consolidated Cargo Carriers, Inc., has won and been presented numerous fleet and industrial safety awards from the South Carolina Trucking Association, of which organization he is a long-time member, having also served actively as one of its board members; and

Whereas, despite having graduated from Lower Richland High School in the heart of Carolina Gamecock country, he remains a quiet but steadfast Clemson Tiger fan; and

Whereas, he hopes to enjoy the coming retirement years with his wife, Vita, his son and two daughters, and his four grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend congratulations to Mr. Leon O'Neil Smith, Vice President and General Manager of Consolidated Cargo Carriers, Inc., upon the occasion of his retirement, and wish him many years of health and happiness in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Leon O'Neil Smith and the South Carolina Trucking Association.
