TO CONGRATULATE THE GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL "LADY HAWKS" BASKETBALL TEAM ON ITS OUTSTANDING WIN OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION (SCISA) IIA STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, TED HINZMAN, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.
Whereas, excellence in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Ted Hinzman and the members of the Greenwood Christian School "Lady Hawks" Basketball Team capped an incredible season by winning the SCISA IIA State Basketball Championship on March 3, 2007; and
Whereas, showing both fans and foes that it was a force to be reckoned with, the team celebrated a 26-5 season record; and
Whereas, the Lady Hawks defeated Calhoun Academy and Charleston Collegiate in the playoffs before upsetting St. Andrews School, the 2006 SCISA champion, in the semi-finals; and
Whereas, in an exciting defensive battle, the team captured the state title by edging out Colleton Preparatory School with a score of 34-31; and
Whereas, thriving under the leadership of the truly extraordinary Coach Ted Hinzman and Assistant Coach Jim Fyock, the girls showed grace under pressure throughout the season; and
Whereas, this outstanding team included four seniors, Caroline Clarke, Katie Fyock, Katie Hinrichs, and Mary Beth West; and
Whereas, taking great pride in the accomplishments of these exceptional student athletes, city and county officials declared Thursday, March 8, 2007, as "Lady Hawks Day" in Greenwood, South Carolina; and
Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to recognize the young women of the Greenwood Christian School Lady Hawks Basketball Team for their outstanding athletic achievements and Christ-like actions, both on and off the court. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Greenwood Christian School "Lady Hawks" Basketball Team on its outstanding win of the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) IIA State Basketball Championship, and honor the players and their coach, Ted Hinzman, on an exceptional season.
