A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE JOHN HAYES, OF SUMTER COUNTY, ON BEING NAMED 2007 LANDSCAPE CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA NURSERY AND LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that John Hayes, of Sumter County, was named 2007 Landscape Contractor of the Year by the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association at the South Carolina Horticulture Industry trade show and conference in Myrtle Beach on February 9; and

Whereas, with fifteen years' experience in ornamental horticulture, John Hayes, owner of Outdoor Appearance in Sumter, also specializes in the application of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers; and

Whereas, as a leader in applying a responsible, environmentally sensitive approach to landscaping in this rapidly changing field, Mr. Hayes, in cooperation with Clemson University and the South Carolina Urban and Community Forestry Division, spearheaded the development of a manual used by landscapers in studying for the Environmental Landscape Certification program; and

Whereas, using his influence as past president of the South Carolina Landscape and Turfgrass Association, he helped bring about a closer working relationship between that organization and the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association, thereby enabling successful joint projects and promoting professionalism within the industry; and

Whereas, in previous recognition by his peers, John Hayes was named Member of the Year in 2000 by the South Carolina Aquatic Plant Management Society for working with the organization's board in a similar use of his influence to promote professionalism within the industry; and

Whereas, this new honor is a fitting tribute to an exemplary South Carolina landscape artist who contributes abundantly to the outdoor beauty of this great State, and the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing John Hayes as its 2007 recipient. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate John Hayes, of Sumter County, on being named 2007 Landscape Contractor of the Year by the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to John Hayes.
