A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND STEPHEN M. LACY FOR HIS STRONG LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT AS PRESIDENT, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, AND A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE MEREDITH CORPORATION IN SPONSORING THE FAMILY CIRCLE CUP AND THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE IT BRINGS TO THE CITY OF CHARLESTON AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Stephen M. Lacy is president, chief executive officer, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Meredith Corporation; and

Whereas, based in Des Moines, Iowa, the Meredith Corporation is one of America's leading media and marketing companies operating in businesses centered on magazine and book publishing, television broadcasting, integrated marketing, and interactive media; and

Whereas, Meredith's major media brands include Better Homes and Gardens, Ladies' Home Journal, Family Circle, Parents, Fitness, Country Home, and More magazines, and it has television stations in eight Top 35 markets, including Atlanta, Phoenix, and Portland, Oregon; and

Whereas, Mr. Lacy is a certified public accountant and graduate of Kansas State University, where he earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in accounting. He currently serves on the boards of the Kansas State University Foundation and the Kansas State University College of Business Administration Dean's Advisory Council; and

Whereas, Stephen Lacy serves as chair of the Board of Directors of the Direct Marketing Association and serves on the boards of The Advertising Council and Magazine Publishers of America, as well as, the board of the United Way of Central Iowa; and

Whereas, Mr. Lacy's corporation, Meredith Corporation, is the main sponsor for the annual Family Circle Cup held at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island April 7-15, 2007; and

Whereas, the Family Circle Cup is one of ten Tier I events on the Sony Ericsson Women's Tennis Association Tour, which hosts some of the top players in women's tennis throughout the world; and

Whereas, the Family Circle Cup has a tremendous economic impact on lodging, retail sales, the restaurant industry, and tourism for the City of Charleston and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are privileged to honor Stephen M. Lacy and the Meredith Corporation for his support and efforts in sponsoring the Family Circle Cup and the economical importance it brings to the City of Charleston and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and commend Stephen M. Lacy for his strong leadership and support as president, chief executive officer, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Meredith Corporation in sponsoring the Family Circle Cup and the economic importance it brings to the City of Charleston and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Stephen M. Lacy.
