A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND HONORING V. V. REID SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA AS IT OBSERVES ITS FIFTY-FOURTH ANNIVERSARY OF EDUCATING CHILDREN FOR THE FUTURE AND WISHING IT GREAT SUCCESS AS IT CELEBRATES ITS FIRST SCHOOL REUNION.

Whereas, originally founded in 1954 as the Veatrice Victoria Reid Nursery and Kindergarten, the V.V. Reid School's educational goal has always been to offer students outstanding academic curriculum while developing the "whole" child socially, emotionally, physically, mentally, aesthetically, and spiritually; and

Whereas, the officers and members of Reid Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Board of Directors of V.V. Reid School believe in enhancing the image of the child, the teacher, and the parent or guardian by respecting their individual rights; and

Whereas, at V.V. Reid School, the faculty and administration emphasize the importance of communication between the parents or guardians and the teachers for the continuation of the child's education and quality care; and

Whereas, the V.V. Reid School has educated more than forty-five thousand students over its fifty-four years, who have gone on to become academic and community leaders throughout the State; and

Whereas, the V.V. Reid School in celebration of its rich history is observing its first school reunion on May 25, 2007, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly share the pride of past and present students, faculty, and staff of V.V. Reid School on these milestones in honoring an educational institution that has been instrumental. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor V. V. Reid School in Columbia as it observes its fifty-fourth anniversary of educating children for the future and wish for it great success as it celebrates its first school reunion.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Norvel Goff, Sr. of Reid Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church on behalf of V. V. Reid School.
