A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING SENIOR CARTER SCOTT ON BEING THE FIRST FOOTBALL PLAYER IN HAMMOND'S FORTY-YEAR HISTORY TO COMMIT TO PLAY FOR AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL, CELEBRATING HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD, AND WISHING HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, since his first days in the Pop Warner league with his dad inspiring and instilling a passion for the game, Carter Scott has always wanted to play football; and

Whereas, earlier this year he made one of his dreams come true when he verbally committed to play Ivy League football. Despite being heavily recruited by Princeton, Harvard, and Washington & Lee, among others, Carter committed himself to play defense at Dartmouth; and

Whereas, Carter is the first football player in Hammond School's forty-year history to sign with an Ivy League team; and

Whereas, along with achieving new goals for the school, the 2006 season also saw Carter breaking school records. In addition to helping the Skyhawks complete a perfect 13-0 season, winning the SCISA Class AAA state championship, Carter finished with a single-season school record of 132 tackles and an all-time school-leading record of 432 tackles; and

Whereas, both on and off the field Carter is a leader. Carter is a member of the National Honor Society, maintains a GPA over a 4.0, serves as President of the Hammond Class of 2007, is President of the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is a member of the Diversity Council, is a Who's Who in American High School student, as well as Who's Who in American High School Student-Athletes, and represented Hammond School at the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, DC; and

Whereas, Carter is a proven leader and a great source of pride for his family, friends, coaches, and fellow students. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Carter Scott on being the first Hammond football player to commit to an Ivy League school, celebrate his many accomplishments both on and off the field, and wish him much success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Carter Scott.
