A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE JAMES ISLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL'S LADY LIONS SOCCER TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2007 SCISA A-AA STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, on May 12, 2007, James Island Christian School's Lady Lions culminated an outstanding season by winning the Class A-AA girls state soccer championship, defeating Beaufort Academy 2-1 in the finals held at Porter-Gaud in Charleston; and

Whereas, James Island Christian School has only fielded a team for three seasons; and

Whereas, this outstanding group of young women has demonstrated that continuous perseverance pays off by working harder than last season to reach the top rung of the soccer ladder of success; and

Whereas, this feat was even more satisfying by returning to the pinnacle of excellence they reached last year by winning the same championship in 2006; and

Whereas, the Lady Lions' season record of 14-2 clearly indicates this is a soccer team to be reckoned with in years to come; and

Whereas, Nakita Kappel scored 24 goals, a James Island Christian School girls soccer record, which included six in three playoff matches earning her all-state awards; and

Whereas, Christen Rentz also was worthy of an all-state award for her outstanding contribution to the team's effort; and

Whereas, the Lady Lions Soccer Team is composed of: Jamie Baker, Gabby Bedell, Shelbi Bottoms, Katelyn Gochnauer, Morgan Greenwood, Kiley Griseto, Genny Hamilton, Amy Hirschmann, Elizabeth Horne, Nakita Kappel, Emily Kurtz, Hannah Moyer, Christen Rentz, Hannah Romano, Lindsey Stewart, and Tory Vanderbeck; and

Whereas, the goalie, Genny Hamilton, for the Lady Lions has climbed a few notches higher on her road to victory because she must overcome her disability by wearing an artificial leg that allows her to play to an unprecedented level by only allowing eight goals the entire season; and

Whereas, the girls dedicated this win to their coach, Terry Hughes, who is moving to Asheville, North Carolina, and will not coach the Lions next year; and

Whereas, Assistant Coach, Laura Little, is recognized for her dedication to this team; and

Whereas, it is proper for the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina to pause in their deliberations to honor this team who has focused prominence upon themselves, the James Island community, and Charleston County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives wish to recognize and congratulate the James Island Christian School's Lady Lions Soccer Team for winning the 2007 SCISA A-AA State Soccer Championship Title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach, Terry Hughes; Headmaster, Bill Smith; and the James Island Christian School Lady Lions Soccer Team.
