A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE 2007 NEWBERRY ACADEMY GOLF TEAM FOR CAPTURING THE SCISA CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the Newberry Academy golf team captured the 2007 South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) Class A State Championship title on April 24, 2007, at the Country Club of Orangeburg; and

Whereas, the Newberry Academy Eagles won the SCISA Class A state championship tournament with a twenty-one stroke victory over second-place finisher, Lowcountry Day School of Pawley's Island; and

Whereas, the state championship title achieved by the golf team of Newberry Academy resulted from the skill, hard work, and perseverance of talented players focused on achieving success; and

Whereas, the dedicated coaches of the Eagles golf team were Head Coach Frank Sligh and Assistant Coaches Murray Gray and Bud West, under the administration of Athletic Director Scott Gardner and Headmaster Robert Dawkins; and

Whereas, the Newberry Academy golf team has brought excitement, attention, and pride to Newberry Academy, the City and County of Newberry, and the State of South Carolina, and the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of talented young student athletes and their coaches. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Newberry Academy golf team for capturing the 2007 SCISA Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Frank Sligh, Athletic Director Scott Gardner, and Headmaster Robert Dawkins.
