A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND DR. KAY R. RAFFIELD FOR HER EIGHT YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF CENTRAL CAROLINA TECHNICAL COLLEGE UPON HER RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Dr. Kay R. Raffield for eight years has filled the office of president of Central Carolina Technical College with dignity and distinction; and

Whereas, her honesty, intelligence, and commitment to excellence in education have drawn admiration from those with whom she has worked, as well as from the people of South Carolina at large; and

Whereas, Dr. Raffield, prior to assuming the presidency in 1999, was vice president for academic and student affairs at Central Carolina, and she has held a variety of positions during her career, such as industrial cost analyst, and teacher and administrator at the secondary and post-secondary levels. She was principal of Sumter High School when it was named a National Blue Ribbon School; and

Whereas, in preparation for her life's work, she earned three degrees from the University of South Carolina: a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting, a master's degree in secondary education, and a doctorate in educational administration; and

Whereas, not one to neglect her civic duty and participation in the life of her community, she currently serves as secretary of the executive board of Sumter Visioning and treasurer of the South Carolina Council of Presidents. In addition to these leadership roles, Dr. Raffield serves as a member on several other boards, including those of the Tuomey Healthcare System, the Santee-Lynches Workforce Investment Act, Covenant Place, Sumter Green, and is an active member of the Sumter Rotary Club, the Governor's Taskforce on Workforce Education, and the South Carolina Association of College and University Presidents, among other organizations; and

Whereas, Dr. Raffield and her husband, Ben, are the proud parents of four adult children and grandparents of Joseph and Justin. They are members of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she serves as chair of the finance committee; and

Whereas, during her tenure as president of Central Carolina Technical College, Dr. Kay Raffield has led her school into the future with a sure and steady hand and has well repaid the trust placed in her by the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Dr. Kay R. Raffield for her eight years of outstanding and dedicated service as president of Central Carolina Technical College upon her retirement, and wish her much success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Kay R. Raffield.
