A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MR. MICHAEL TIMOTHY O'NEAL, JR. OF ANDERSON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Michael Timothy O'Neal, known to his friends as "Tim," on Friday, June 1, 2007, at the venerable age of eighty-four; and

Whereas, born in Greer, he was the son of the late Michael Timothy O'Neal, Sr. and Fannie Bomar O'Neal; and

Whereas, a distinguished United States Army veteran of World War II, Mr. O'Neal received the Purple Heart for his brave and courageous service to his nation; and

Whereas, a businessman, public servant, and farmer, he owned and operated the O'Neal Seed Processing Company from 1947-1967, served as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until his retirement, and raised Angus cattle on his farm for many years; and

Whereas, while president of the Anderson County Farm Bureau, Mr. O'Neal played a pivotal role with The Honorable T. Ed Garrison to establish the Anderson County Volunteer Fire Protection System. He later served with great distinction as chairman of the system's commission for many years; and

Whereas, a faithful child of God, Tim was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson, where he attended the Tom Allen Sunday School Class; and

Whereas, he is survived by a large and loving family, including his wife of sixty-five years, Doris O'Neal; his children, Jane O. Burgess and Ronald M. O'Neal; daughter-in-law, Rita Hawkins O'Neal; four grandchildren, Tammy Burgess Plumley and her husband, Shawn, Michael Burgess and his wife, Kelly, Patrick O'Neal and his wife, Brooke, and Allison O'Neal King and her husband, Brandon; seven great-grandchildren, Britney Jane Greenway, Ashley Plumley, Tabor Plumley, Jessica Burgess, Katelyn Burgess, John Thomas Burgess, and Bailee Katherine O'Neal; a niece, Alice O'Neal Robertson, and a nephew, Timothy G. O'Neal. Mr. O'Neal was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dr. Francis B. O'Neal; and his son-in-law, Thomas U. Burgess; and

Whereas, although they rejoice at his homecoming to be with the Lord, all who knew and loved him grieve at his passing and will deeply miss him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Michael Timothy O'Neal of Anderson County, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Doris O'Neal on behalf of the family.
