A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAPTIST BROTHERHOOD MINISTRY FOR ITS OUTSTANDING WORK AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, AND TO DECLARE JANUARY 25, 2008, SOUTH CAROLINA BAPTIST BROTHERHOOD DAY.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the House of Representatives salutes those organizations that give tirelessly to the welfare of this great State's citizens; and

Whereas, since 1945, the South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood Ministry has stood among their number, seeking to build strong "Christian men, one boy, one man at a time" by involving boys and men in structured enrichment programs that grow body, mind, and spirit; and

Whereas, devoted to positively impacting lives in America within the community, the churches, and the organization's own associations and state and national conventions, the South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood fulfills its mission in part through support of academic and religious education at Morris and Benedict colleges; and

Whereas, as another facet of its ministry, the South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood challenges boys ages six to seventeen to excel in health and fitness through such events as track and field competitions at its annual boys retreat; and

Whereas, in addition, each year the organization encourages its young men to increase their spiritual growth by attending some of its many workshops and the State Bible Bee competition held on the campus of Morris College. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood Ministry for its outstanding work among young people, and declare January 25, 2008, South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood Day.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ted A. Mattison, president of the South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood Ministry.
