A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE CHARLES POWERS OF YORK COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS AS MAYOR OF FORT MILL, HIS COMMITMENT TO THE CITIZENS OF FORT MILL, AND HIS SUPPORT OF THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the Honorable Charles "Charlie" Powers of Fort Mill has proven himself a friend of the Town of Fort Mill, the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce and business community, and all of York County for many years; and

Whereas, a dedicated public servant, Mr. Powers admirably served the Town of Fort Mill in various capacities for thirty years, including a twenty-four-year tenure as mayor during which he led the town through unparalleled growth; and

Whereas, as mayor, Mr. Powers spearheaded efforts to secure funding for projects vital to Fort Mill and the township, including Doby's Bridge Park and the Northern Bypass, and, as a citizens' advocate on the issue of taxation, he supported commercial and corporate growth as a means of expanding the town's tax base; and

Whereas, an avid promoter of the town's signature events, such as the annual Christmas parade and the Fest-I-Fun festival, Mr. Powers faithfully conducted all his civic duties in light of his motto, "...for the good of the citizens of Fort Mill"; and

Whereas, for his many achievements on behalf of Fort Mill's citizenry, Mr. Powers was named the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Lion of the Year, and Jaycee of the Year, and was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor David M. Beasley; and

Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in recognizing the dedicated labors of such public servants as Charles Powers, and the members extend grateful appreciation and best wishes for the future as he continues to serve the citizens of Fort Mill. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the Honorable Charles Powers of York County for his outstanding achievements as mayor of Fort Mill, his commitment to the citizens of Fort Mill, and his support of the business community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Charles Powers of York County.
