A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND HONOR RODDEY STOUDEMIRE, OF OCONEE COUNTY, FOR HER INVALUABLE SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON HER RETIREMENT AS TENTH CIRCUIT COORDINATOR FOR THE GUARDIAN AD LITEM PROGRAM AND TO WISH HER SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, on January 1, 2008, Roddey Stoudemire retired from the Guardian ad Litem Program of Oconee County, where she had devoted twenty-one years to children in need of advocacy; and

Whereas, a native of Timmonsville, Roddey Stoudemire graduated from the University of South Carolina and worked as a substitute teacher until her children were born, and then stayed home to raise them; and

Whereas, when the Guardian ad Litem Program first began in the Palmetto State in 1987, Roddey Stoudemire became its first coordinator for the Tenth Circuit; and

Whereas, from 1987 until 2008, she trained over two hundred thirty community members as volunteers for some 1,747 children who needed the compassion of a community due to neglect and cruelty and who received the succor of a guardian; and

Whereas, always on call, she enabled these volunteers to help children in nine hundred twenty-eight cases, and Roddey herself served as a guardian for a half-dozen children in need; and

Whereas, beyond the scope of an office, Roddey Stoudemire has served her community on the board of the Red Cross and the Oconee County Public Library, and as a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she has sought to be renewed to fulfill the many needs around her; and

Whereas, she has further carried out civic work quietly as a member of the Paul Haynes Circle, which also provides intellectual enrichment for its members; and

Whereas, her beloved husband Julian, her son Blair Stoudemire and daughter Mary Sprouse, along with her four treasured grandchildren, have encouraged her service to the children in the Guardian ad Litem Program, and now they anticipate time with her in a much deserved retirement; and

Whereas, she has brought pride to her family, community, and profession in twenty-one years of dedication to the Guardian ad Litem Program of Oconee County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend and honor Roddey Stoudemire, of Oconee County, for her invaluable service to the State of South Carolina upon her retirement as Tenth Circuit coordinator for the Guardian ad Litem Program of Oconee County, and wish her success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Roddey Stoudemire.
