VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMED ALL-AMERICAN 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY FOR ITS SUPPORT OF THE WALL THAT HEALS, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE TRAVELING VIETNAM MEMORIAL WALL, DURING THE MEMORIAL'S VISIT TO PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE IN CLINTON.
Whereas, the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, helped make possible Presbyterian College's hosting of the Wall That Heals, commonly known as the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, by sending representatives to the September 27, 2007, awards ceremony held in conjunction with the memorial's residence at the college; and
Whereas, Colonel Paul W. Bricker, rear detachment commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, and Command Sergeant Major Arthur L. Coleman, Jr., answering the call of the college, spoke and assisted in presenting awards to veterans being honored at the ceremony; and
Whereas, on display from September 27 through September 30, 2007, at Presbyterian College's Bailey Memorial Stadium in Clinton, the Wall That Heals required that a number of conditions be met in order for the college to win a spot as host. Colonel Bricker and Command Sergeant Major Coleman, by their presence and participation, enabled the college to fulfill one of those requirements; and
Whereas, the event brought closure for numerous Vietnam veterans unable to travel to Washington, D.C., as well as recognition and honor to many among these veterans of a forgotten war. Presbyterian College is pleased to have been selected to host such an event, and the State of South Carolina is grateful to the 82nd Airborne Division for its part in helping the college realize its vision of bringing the Wall That Heals to Clinton; and
Whereas, on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina, the General Assembly wishes to thank the great 82nd Airborne Division, known as America's Guard of Honor and the largest parachute force in the free world, for its many years of defending our nation's freedom in action from World War I to the present conflict in Iraq; and
Whereas, the people of South Carolina join with the General Assembly in praying God's protection upon the soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division in the performance of their missions and in thanking them for their assistance to Presbyterian College. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and express their gratitude to the famed All-American 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army for its support of the Wall That Heals, commonly known as the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, during the memorial's visit to Presbyterian College in Clinton.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army.
