TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND HONOR THE INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT OF ZETA PHI BETA, MRS. BARBARA C. MOORE, AND SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL DIRECTOR, MRS. SCARLET BLACK, BOTH SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS, ALONG WITH MRS. MARION GARY, THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE DIRECTOR, AND ALL THE SOUTH CAROLINA ZETAS FOR THEIR HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly commend Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, for its legacy of eighty-nine years of public service and its commitment to social action; and
Whereas, Zeta Phi Beta has legislative priorities that include addressing healthcare disparities, increasing vigilance in monitoring HIV and AIDS in the United States, supporting diabetes research and treatment, strengthening laws against domestic violence, full funding for Head Start programs, and increased funding for prenatal care; and
Whereas, through the National Education Foundation, the sorority works with the Department of Energy to educate minority communities about the Human Genome Projects; and
Whereas, Zeta Phi Beta also has a long-standing partnership with the March of Dimes to educate low-income mothers about prenatal care and programs to teach expectant mothers about prenatal health and infant care; and
Whereas, in 2003, Zeta Phi Beta, Incorporated, founded the Zeta Congressional Institute in an effort to increase the number of minority women who pursue careers as advocates and litigators, and the sorority developed an outstanding program called Z-HOPE, Zetas Helping Other People Excel; and
Whereas, this service sorority also established Zeta Organizational Leadership Program, an intense and nationally structured program to certify trained leaders, to focus on leadership development and enhancement for the future, and to ensure the continued contributions of its leaders and members for the common good of this State and nation; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to congratulate the members of Zeta Phi Beta, Incorporated, for their active concern in their communities and express their appreciation to them for their years of dedication. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, acknowledges and honors the international president of Zeta Phi Beta, Mrs. Barbara C. Moore, and southeastern regional director, Mrs. Scarlet Black, both South Carolina residents, along with Mrs. Marion Gary, the South Carolina state director, and all the South Carolina Zetas for their humanitarian efforts and contributions.
