A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DR. JACOB ALLEN DERRICK, OF CHESTER COUNTY, FOR HIS FORTY YEARS OF MINISTRY AND SERVICE TO THE MEMBERS OF HIS CONGREGATION AND TO HIS COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS AND BLESSINGS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to acknowledge the service that Dr. Jacob Allen Derrick has given to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian churches in Chester County for forty years; and

Whereas, born on August 19, 1943, Jacob Derrick earned a bachelor's degree in foreign languages from Erskine College in 1965 and a bachelor of divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, in 1968; and

Whereas, upon graduation from seminary, he answered a call to Union, Edgemoor, and Oak Grove Associate Reformed Presbyterian churches in Chester County and was ordained at Union Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Richburg by the Catawba Presbytery on July 7, 1968; and

Whereas, Dr. Derrick has served on various committees and as moderator of the Catawba Presbytery and from 1995 to 1996 as moderator of the Synod of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church; and

Whereas, he has served on the Board of Trustees of Erskine College and was awarded the honorary doctor of divinity by Erskine College for his service to the denomination; and

Whereas, Dr. Derrick has steadfastly followed in the Scotch-Irish traditions of the founders of Rocky Creek Meeting House, which became Union Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1795, and has faithfully led that church and Edgemoor Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for forty years; and

Whereas, his support of youth programs and the local schools extended his ministry beyond his churches to include the larger community of Chester County; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly express their deep gratitude to Dr. Jacob Allen Derrick for his devotion in proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ for forty years to the citizens of Chester County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Dr. Jacob Allen Derrick, of Chester County, for his forty years of ministry and service to the members of his congregation and to his community, and wish him success and blessings in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Jacob Allen Derrick.
