A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR PATROLMAN FIRST CLASS MATT HOOPER, OF HORRY COUNTY, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING WORK WITH THE FIFTEENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT DRUG ENFORCEMENT UNIT, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BEING NAMED THE MYRTLE BEACH ROTARY CLUB "OFFICER JOE MCGARRY MEMORIAL POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR FOR 2007."

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Patrolman First Class Matt Hooper has been selected as the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club "Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year for 2007"; and

Whereas, a narcotics agent assigned to the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit, Officer Hooper has the responsibility for investigating high-level drug trafficking in Myrtle Beach; and

Whereas, at great personal sacrifice during his eleven years in law enforcement, he consistently has accomplished his goal of cultivating informants to acquire the necessary information to take numerous offenders, as well as illegal narcotics and guns, off the streets of Myrtle Beach and to seize cash used in nefarious activities; and

Whereas, his investigations have helped state and federal agencies in busting many drug-trafficking organizations such as the black tar heroin ring that stretches from coast to coast with origins in Mexico; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives express their gratitude to Patrolman First Class Matt Hooper for his sacrifice and service in protecting the citizens of Horry County and the State of South Carolina, and congratulate him on his receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Patrolman First Class Matt Hooper, of Horry County, for his outstanding work with the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit, and congratulate him for being named the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club "Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year for 2007."
