A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE ANDERSON UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR CAPTURING THE 2007-08 CONFERENCE CAROLINAS REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, the Trojans of Anderson University defeated all comers to capture the 2007-08 Conference Carolinas Regular-Season Championship; and

Whereas, Coach Jeff Dow and his assistant coach, Devon Rhoads, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their basketball program into a championship team; and

Whereas, no strangers to the taste of victory, the Trojans have won the Conference Carolinas Regular-Season Championship three of the past four years. They have also nailed the Conference Carolinas tournament championship three of the past five years and earned a finalist berth at the tournament for the past five years; and

Whereas, in addition, Anderson University is one of only four schools to win at least one game in the NCAA Division II tournament during each of the last five years. The Trojans' impressive teamwork garnered them a spot in the top ten in four categories in the final NCAA Division II statistics for the 2007-08 season, as well as the number nineteen slot in the final USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll; and

Whereas, adding luster to an already stellar record, standout Nikki Anthony was named 2007-08 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, the third Anderson player in the last four years to be so honored. She also received honorable mention All-America honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and from Women's Division II Bulletin, marking the fourth straight year an Anderson player has received this distinction. Further, teammate Keana Boyd, another Anderson standout, brought home first team all-conference honors; and

Whereas, for his winning efforts, Coach Jeff Dow was tabbed 2007-08 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, the Trojans have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the House are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of talented young athletes and their coaches. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Anderson University women's basketball team for capturing the 2007-08 Conference Carolinas Regular-Season Championship, and congratulate the team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to President Evans P. Whitaker, Ph.D., and Coach Jeff Dow, of Anderson University.
