A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MADELIN J. GIBSON-GUY, OF BERKELEY COUNTY, FOR HER SERVICE THROUGHOUT THIRTY-SIX YEARS AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, AS PRINCIPAL OF BERKELEY INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Madelin J. Gibson-Guy has served for thirty-six years as an educator in various roles; and

Whereas, she earned a bachelor's degree from Johnson C. Smith University and was a National Science Foundation Fellowship Scholar at Bucknell University; and

Whereas, she also earned a master's degree in counselor education from The Citadel and is a participant in the doctoral program in educational administration at South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, after teaching various subjects for several years, Madelin Gibson-Guy became an elementary guidance counselor for seven years, and then she served for three years as an assistant principal, for sixteen years as a principal, and as an adjunct professor in education at the College of Charleston; and

Whereas, as a principal, master teacher, mentor, strategic planner, consultant, and supervisor, she has led Berkeley Intermediate School to qualify as a Red Carpet School Award winner, and she was named Tri-County Administrator of the Year; and

Whereas, Madelin Gibson-Guy is the mother of two fine daughters, Damali Gibson and Tennille Gibson-Brown who also have blessed her with two adoring grandchildren, Aaron and Kendall Brown; and

Whereas, an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, she has further served her community as an executive board member of the Moncks Corner National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a supporter of efforts to alleviate suffering from sickle cell anemia through the Epicurean Society Leadership Group, a past president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and an active member of the Black Voters Participation Organization of Charleston; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly commend the dedication of Madelin J. Gibson-Guy to education and her commitment to developing the hearts and minds of students for the last thirty-six years, and express deep gratitude for the intelligent and talented role model she has set before South Carolina's young people. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Madelin J. Gibson-Guy, of Berkeley County, for her service throughout thirty-six years as an educator, and congratulate her, upon the occasion of her retirement, as Principal of Berkeley Intermediate School.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Madelin J. Gibson-Guy.
