A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE LAURENS ACADEMY BASEBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the Laurens Academy baseball team defeated Bowman Academy 4-3 on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, to capture the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title; and

Whereas, Coach Travis Casey and his assistant, Coach Campbell, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their baseball program into a championship team; and

Whereas, championship play demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as teamwork and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, the team showed fans and foes alike that the Crusaders' winning of this victory was not a lucky accident; and

Whereas, this crowning victory caps an excellent 17-2 season for the Crusaders and marks their second consecutive state championship; and

Whereas, adding luster to an already stellar season, junior Luke Tollison was named SCISA A-2A Player of the Year, also for the second consecutive year; and

Whereas, the Crusaders have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young men. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Laurens Academy baseball team for its outstanding season and for capturing the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Todd Kirk and Coach Travis Casey, of Laurens Academy.
