A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MELANIE PENDARVIS, LAFARGE NORTH AMERICA EMPLOYEE, FOR HER OUTSTANDING WORK WITH THE DEDICATED AND DILIGENT SERVICE (DADS) MENTORING PROGRAM IN DORCHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUR.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in honoring Melanie Pendarvis, Harleyville Cement Plant employee of Lafarge North America, who serves the DADS Mentoring Program to help the youth of our great State succeed and reach their potential; and

Whereas, the DADS program, founded by the Medical University of South Carolina in partnership with the Trident Urban League, receives its funding from Lafarge North America; and

Whereas, beginning at Jenkins Hill Elementary School and continuing at Harleyville-Ridgeville with Ronald Lary as its coordinator, the program promotes character development and leadership skills through committed men who serve as positive community role models in the educational mentoring program; and

Whereas, when the school projects its budget each year, Melanie Pendarvis serves the DADS Mentoring Program by presenting the budget to Lafarge North America, and then she sees that the funds reach the school; and

Whereas, she further serves the program by recruiting men employed by the plant to volunteer as mentors to students in the program and by arranging work schedules for them to get time off so that they can go to the school to meet with the students; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are confident that the achievement of high school graduation is but the first of many accolades that these students will earn as a result of the caring work of Melanie Pendarvis. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Melanie Pendarvis, Lafarge North America employee, for her outstanding work with the Dedicated and Diligent Service (DADS) Mentoring Program in Dorchester School District Four.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Melanie Pendarvis.
