A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE ANDREWS HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BOYS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM, OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Andrews High School varsity boys track and field team took first place at the state meet on May 10, 2008; and

Whereas, in only their seventh year of competition since the team was reinstituted, the Andrews Yellow Jackets have stung their Class AA competitors by winning the state championship two times, first in 2004; and

Whereas, in almost seven grueling hours of competition, the Yellow Jackets, to the delight of their admirers and the disappointment of their adversaries, emerged with a lead of nearly twenty points over their closet rival, Woodland High School; and

Whereas, in four events, senior Marcus Pope was named All American, and classmates Janear Davis and Justin Duncan were named All-State with him. Along with other seniors Robbie Cooper, Jimon Dollard, Josh McCray, and Derrick Nixon, they led their team through a successful season; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires endurance, strength, versatility, and perseverance, Coach Bill Peterman and Assistant Coaches Antionette Finney and Rob Del Bagno used their own athletic skill and experience to forge a championship team through rigorous work in demanding practices; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take pride in the success of the Andrews High School varsity boys track and field team and look to hear of future successes from this talented team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Andrews High School varsity boys track and field team, of Georgetown County, for a successful season, and congratulate the team members and their coaches for capturing the 2008 Class AA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Michelle Staggers and Coach Bill Peterman.
