VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR CYNTHANIA SIMPSON-OBIOHA FOR TWENTY-THREE YEARS OF SERVICE AS A TEACHER TO THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED THE 2008-2009 W. J. KEENAN HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Cynthania Simpson-Obioha has been named the 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year for W. J. Keenan High School; and
Whereas, in 1985, Cynthania Simpson-Obioha earned a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education from South Carolina State University and became the band director for Mount Pleasant High School and Fleming Middle School in Elliot, South Carolina, where she taught for three years; and
Whereas, beginning in 1988, she directed the band for W. A. Perry Middle School in Columbia for three years while she earned a master's degree in secondary school counseling in 1990 from South Carolina State University; and
Whereas, in 1991, she became a school counselor for Lower Richland High School in Hopkins and stayed there for four years before moving to W. J. Keenan High School in Columbia where she is now the director of guidance; and
Whereas, in 1998, she received the Time Warner Cable Star Teacher Award and was named a Teacher of the Month in 2004 at W. J. Keenan High School; and
Whereas, this fine educator holds both state and national certification as a professional school counselor and is involved in a number of professional leadership and development activities; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of service that Cynthania Simpson-Obioha has given to the students of this State and wish her continued success as she trains young people to be productive citizens in society. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Cynthania Simpson-Obioha for twenty-three years of service as a teacher to the children of South Carolina, and congratulate her upon being named the 2008-2009 W. J. Keenan High School Teacher of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Cynthania Simpson-Obioha.
