A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. ALIN JESSIE SALLEY RIGBY ON THE OCCASION OF HER EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that Mrs. Alin Jessie Salley Rigby will celebrate her eighty-fifth birthday on March 9, 2007; and

Whereas, Alin Jessie Salley Rigby, daughter of the late Johnny Salley and Jessie Boyd Salley Jones, was born on March 9, 1922, in the early days of the twentieth century, and as that century and the beginnings of the twenty-first century have brought incredible changes and developments to this nation, Mrs. Rigby has been there to witness many of them; and

Whereas, she was the beloved wife of the late Marvin Rigby, the Lord blessing this union with a daughter, Patricia, and two grandchildren, Brian Loniel and Kimberly LuAlin; and

Whereas, in preparation for a career in teaching, Mrs. Rigby graduated from Williams Memorial High School in St. George, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Claflin University, and completed further study at South Carolina State College; and

Whereas, at the beginning of thirty-six years of dedicated service as a teacher, she taught in a three-room schoolhouse that later became Matthews Elementary School in Reevesville, finally completing her teaching career at Williams Memorial Elementary School in St. George; and

Whereas, an active member of her church, she serves as lay speaker, Sunday School teacher, class leader, and member of various boards, also volunteering weekly to convene Bible studies at the local jail and nursing home and visiting and praying with the sick in the community; and

Whereas, through her faithful service to the community, Mrs. Rigby continues to have a positive impact on countless lives, and because of her strong love for the Lord, life, and people, all who know her are inspired anew to serve our Almighty God; and

Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor this truly special lady at the celebration of her eighty-fifth birthday and joins with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Alin Jessie Salley Rigby on the occasion of her eighty-fifth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many more years of health and happiness.
