A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE GREENWOOD COUNTY'S NINETY SIX HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND ON CAPTURING THE 2006 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS A STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the Ninety Six High School marching band captured the 2006 South Carolina Class A State Marching Band Championship title on October 28, 2006, at Clinton High School; and

Whereas, competing against eleven other bands, the Wildcats wrapped up the title with wins in all three captions, Best Music, Best Visual Execution, and Best Overall Effect, and scored a Superior rating, to bring home the first marching band championship for the school since 1973; and

Whereas, the seventy-four-member Ninety Six High School marching band preceded its state win by grabbing the 2006 Class A Upperstate Marching Band Championship title on October 21, 2006; and

Whereas, the achievements of the Ninety Six High School marching band this year show that Band Director David Vickery and Assistant Director Joey Bagwell are among the finest band directors in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the parents, school administrators, and officials of Greenwood County School District 52 have provided the instruction, support, and encouragement necessary to attain such a high level of achievement; and

Whereas, the Senate takes great pleasure in according special recognition to such an outstanding group of young musicians. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Greenwood County's Ninety Six High School marching band on capturing the 2006 South Carolina Class A State Marching Band Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the principal of Ninety Six High School, Ms. Joanne Campbell, and Band Director David Vickery.
