VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE OLDE ENGLISH DISTRICT TOURISM COMMISSION FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF PROMOTING TOURISM AND HISTORY IN CHESTER, CHESTERFIELD, FAIRFIELD, KERSHAW, LANCASTER, UNION, AND YORK COUNTIES AND FOR HELPING TO MAKE TOURISM THE NUMBER ONE INDUSTRY IN THE STATE.
Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission was established on May 10, 1982, by the South Carolina General Assembly for the purpose of instituting and operating programs to improve, enlarge, increase, and otherwise enhance tourism, recreation, and development in the counties of Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York; and
Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission is working to establish the district as a major center of tourism and recreation through promoting its many attractions in a Visitor's Guide and printing niche market brochures, such as African-American historical sites, antiquing, genealogy, civil war sites, and artists' studios; and
Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission promotes these seven counties as a destination to individuals, families, group tours, and school groups and works with travel writers from all over the United States encouraging them to write stories on the Olde English District attractions; and
Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission has served as a trailblazer in promoting Revolutionary War History in these seven counties, as well as the entire State, through its leadership in developing the Carolinas' Backcountry Revolutionary War Trail; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize the Olde English District Tourism Commission for its innovation in creating tourism opportunities in South Carolina and for the many visitors it has brought to this historic, scenic, and largely rural region of our State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Olde English District Tourism Commission for twenty-five years of promoting tourism and history in Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York Counties and for helping to make tourism the number one industry in the State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Olde English District Tourism Commission.
