A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 41 IN DILLON COUNTY FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH FORK CROSS ROAD TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH THE DILLON/MARION COUNTY LINE THE "DAVID K. BETHEA MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS PORTION OF HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "DAVID K. BETHEA MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".

Whereas, Mr. David K. Bethea, was born in Dillon County on August 26, 1913, and died on March 23, 1985. He was the son of the late Laurence Kitt and Hattie Rogers Bethea; and

Whereas, he was married to the former Mary Florence Edwards and the father of two children; and

Whereas, Mr. Bethea was an Air Force veteran of World War II, and a farmer in the Fork Community of Dillon County; and

Whereas, he was a faithful member, elder, and the chairman of the building committee of the Fork Presbyterian Church; and

Whereas, Mr. Bethea served as a trustee of the Lake View School District, on the board of the Marion County Electric Cooperative, and on the board of Trico Water Company; and

Whereas, it is a fitting tribute to name a portion of South Carolina Highway 41 in Dillon County to honor the memory of this son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 41 in Dillon County from its intersection with Fork Cross Road to its intersection with the Dillon/Marion County line the "David K. Bethea Memorial Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this portion of highway that contain the words "David K. Bethea Memorial Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
