THE COMMITTEE ON

INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 3206) to request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses King Creek along South Carolina Highway 3 in Allendale County "Hersell N. McIntosh Bridge", etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

ROBERT W. LEACH, SR. for Committee.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE BRIDGE THAT CROSSES KING CREEK ALONG SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 3 IN ALLENDALE COUNTY "HERSELL N. MCINTOSH BRIDGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "HERSELL N. MCINTOSH BRIDGE".

Whereas, Mrs. Hersell N. McIntosh was born in Aiken County on April 26, 1919, the daughter of Yancy Elijah and Lillie Mae Sullivan Newsome, and died on October 8, 1990; and

Whereas, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Benedict College and her Masters of Arts degree from South Carolina State College; and

Whereas, she was married to the late Clement O. McIntosh, Sr., and together they were the proud parents of five children who they reared together on the family farm which they purchased and operated in Allendale County for almost forty years; and

Whereas, Mrs. McIntosh devoted her life to the field of education and spent thirty-seven years as a teacher and administrator in the public schools in Anderson, Greenville, Hampton, and Allendale Counties, with more than thirty years of this service spent in Allendale County. She retired in 1979 as guidance counselor at the Allendale-Fairfax High School in Allendale County; and

Whereas, she was a member of the Church of God and a Sunday School teacher at Happy Home Baptist Church in Allendale County; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to memorialize this daughter of South Carolina who devoted more than thirty years of her life to the field of public education in Allendale County by having the bridge that crosses King Creek along South Carolina Highway 3 in Allendale County named in her honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses King Creek along South Carolina Highway 3 in Allendale County "Hersell N. McIntosh Bridge" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this bridge that contain the words "Hersell N. McIntosh Bridge".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
