A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. SHARON KEESLEY OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS SUPERINTENDENT OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND TO WISH HER ALL THE BEST UPON HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Dr. Sharon Keesley, a born educator, has devoted her life to serving others in her many roles in South Carolina public education; and

Whereas, a magna cum laude graduate of Lander College, Dr. Keesley went on to earn her Master's and Doctoral degrees from Clemson University and Nova University; and

Whereas, spending her entire career in Edgefield County School District, Dr. Keesley was a teacher at Douglas Elementary School and W.E. Parker Elementary School for nine years; and

Whereas, in 1982, Dr. Keesley became Assistant Principal of W.E. Parker Elementary School, where she supervised instructional programs, staff development, and related services; and

Whereas, one year later, she became Director of Instruction of Edgefield County School District. In that capacity, she directed the development of a long-range district improvement plan, directed teacher effectiveness training programs, and planned and implemented administrative staff development, among other duties; and

Whereas, Dr. Keesley took on the role of Associate Superintendent for Instructional Services in 1987, a position she held until 1999 when she became Superintendent of Edgefield County School District; and

Whereas, during her eight years as Superintendent, Dr. Keesley inspired and empowered administrators, teachers, and students to succeed in every task they undertake, expecting only their very best; and

Whereas, understanding that parental involvement is crucial to student achievement, Dr. Keesley developed workshop opportunities for parents to learn how to best help their children; and

Whereas, Dr. Keesley remains active in the Edgefield community, and as a member and leader of countless organizations and affiliations, she fosters great confidence in Edgefield County schools; and

Whereas, Dr. Keesley is the recipient of the Outstanding Superintendent Award for the South Carolina Association of Guidance Counselors in 2002, the Outstanding Educator Award for the South Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development in 1991, and the Outstanding Superintendent Award for South Carolina Vocational and Technical Education in 2005, among many other awards and accolades; and

Whereas, ably leading the Edgefield County School District to countless notable successes, Dr. Keesley will be sorely missed upon her retirement, but her legacy will live on in students, faculty, and staff whose lives she touched for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Sharon Keesley of Edgefield County for her outstanding service as Superintendent of Edgefield County School District and wish her all the best upon her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Sharon Keesley.
