A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 304 IN BARNWELL COUNTY THE "ARIE BLACK GUESS HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE SIGNS OR MARKERS ALONG THIS HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "ARIE BLACK GUESS HIGHWAY".

Whereas, Mrs. Arie Black Guess is a native of the Town of Blackville in Barnwell County; and

Whereas, she is a retired Blackville High School teacher with thirty-five years of service to the teaching profession; and

Whereas, during her career, she is credited with having taught more than three thousand five hundred students and has been an influential leader in both Barnwell and Bamberg Counties; and

Whereas, Mrs. Guess has received numerous awards and commendations that include being selected as the Carolinian of the Year Medal of Achievement Award Honoree 2007, by the South Carolina Citizens and Merchants Association, Inc., and the Carolina Historical Foundation Society, Inc.; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to recognize the accomplishments of this daughter of South Carolina by naming South Carolina Highway 304 in Barnwell County in her honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name South Carolina Highway 304 in Barnwell County the "Arie Black Guess Highway" and erect appropriate signs or markers along this highway that contain the words "Arie Black Guess Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
