A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING SPARTANBURG COUNTY'S WOODRUFF HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER TEAM ON ITS COME-FROM-BEHIND VICTORY TO TAKE THE CLASS AA-A UPPER STATE TITLE IN POSTING A 20-6 RECORD FOR THE 2007 SEASON.

Whereas, the Woodruff Wolverines girls soccer team went all the way to the State AA-A finals in 2007, its most successful season in recent years; and

Whereas, although disappointed that the state title evaded them as the team lost a heartbreaking match 1-0 to Bishop England, the Spartanburg County team was delighted with its 20-6 season record, which was capped by the AA-A Upper State championship crown; and

Whereas, Fernando Gomez, the Wolverines' head coach, is given "some" credit for the upper state title win by his talented team members, who said their come-from-behind 2-1 win over Southside Christian was in response to Gomez's "tongue-lashing" during intermission; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is always proud to honor its student athletes and to thank the coaches who play such a vital role in their lives. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Spartanburg County's Woodruff High School girls soccer team on its come-from-behind victory to take the Class AA-A Upper State title in posting a 20-6 record for the 2007 season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to head coach Fernando Gomez.
