TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF HENRY ELIAS FRASIER, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY, CHURCH, MANY FRIENDS, AND COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Henry Elias Frasier on February 26, 2008; and
Whereas, born in Colleton County on November 1, 1936, Henry Elias Frasier was the son of the late Mary Lou Brown Frasier and John Frasier; and
Whereas, Henry Frasier entered practical nursing training in September 1962 and became the first African American male in the South to graduate from an accredited nursing program; and
Whereas, although he received further training in pharmacology, he remained in the profession of his first love; and after more than thirty years as a licensed practical nurse, he retired from Richland Memorial Hospital in January 1996; and
Whereas, he and his beloved wife Barbara Jean had three sons and four daughters, as well as eight grandchildren; and they knew the joy expressed by the sweet songwriter of Israel, who said, "Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man: so are the children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them" (Psalm 127:3-5); and
Whereas, known for his thoughtful care of others, Henry Frasier was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Cottageville, where he sang in the Senior Choir. His rich voice and joyful countenance will be sorely missed; and
Whereas, it is fitting that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, pause in their deliberations to remember and honor the life of Henry Elias Frasier. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Henry Elias Frasier, of Richland County, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family, church, many friends, and community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Barbara Jean Frasier.
