A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR MRS. REBECCA WAY GADSON, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF MOTHER'S DAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS CELEBRATION AND MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly note with pleasure that Mother's Day will be celebrated on Sunday, May 11, 2008; and

Whereas, it is fitting that all citizens of South Carolina should pause to remember their mothers and express gratitude for the care and love these dear ones continually give their children, and, on the occasion of Mother's Day 2008, the General Assembly wishes to honor Mrs. Rebecca Way Gadson as one of this great State's outstanding mothers, one worthy of praise and emulation by all women who would be a blessing to their children; and

Whereas, one of a fine family of nine siblings, Rebecca Way Gadson, fifth child of Teck and Alberta Coleman Way, was born on June 18, 1937, and attended the Lexington County public schools; and

Whereas, the young Rebecca embarked on a career that includes ten years at Carolina Trade School, twenty-five years at Pizza House, and ten years at Clifton Seafood, where she still works. For more than forty years, she was married to the late Deacon John J. Gadson, the Lord blessing their union with two children, Angelo J. Gadson and Lawanda S. Gadson, as well as a grandson, Angelo J. Gadson, Jr.; and

Whereas, ordained a minister in 1976, she serves as an associate pastor of Platt Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Gadson is a member of Columbia's New Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she serves with the Deaconess Ministry and sings with the Jubilee Choir. Singing old country hymns, reading the Bible, and spending time with her grandson occupy much of her free time; and

Whereas, those who know and love her testify that Rebecca Way Gadson is a mother deserving of the commendation found in Proverbs 31:28: "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Mrs. Rebecca Way Gadson, of Richland County, on the occasion of Mother's Day, and wish her a joyous celebration and many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Rebecca Way Gadson.
