A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MRS. CASSIE KEITT WEEKS, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Mrs. Cassie Keitt Weeks will reach the momentous marker of one hundred years on August 5, 2008; and

Whereas, born in Fort Motte in 1908 to Elijah "Bub" and Hattie Young Keitt, Cassie Keitt was married to her beloved husband the late Jesse Weeks, Sr.; and

Whereas, together Cassie and Jesse Weeks raised four fine children, Rebecca Weeks Brown, Hattie Belle Weeks Scott, the late Jesse Weeks, Jr., and Julius Weeks, who blessed them with eight adoring grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, she enjoyed making quality lye soap, attending quilting bees, and especially hosting large family gatherings, and she never misses an opportunity to cast her vote in elections; and

Whereas, she enjoys telephone calls and visits from dear friends and afternoons sitting on her porch filled with beautiful South Carolina breezes; and

Whereas, a life-long member and church mother of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, she sings in the senior choir, ushers, raises funds for the church, serves on the kitchen committee, and credits her long life with "trusting in the Lord"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful that Mrs. Cassie Keitt Weeks is reaching the milestone of her one hundredth birthday and thank her for making life richer for those whose lives she has touched. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mrs. Cassie Keitt Weeks, upon the occasion of her centennial birthday, and wish her much health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Cassie Keitt Weeks.
