HIGH OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA AIR NATIONAL GUARD, WHILE HE WAS SERVING A TOUR OF MILITARY DUTY IN AFGHANISTAN AND TO EXPRESS TO HIS PARENTS AND FAMILY THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF A GRATEFUL STATE AND NATION FOR HIS LIFE, SACRIFICE, AND SERVICE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly on behalf of all South Carolinians acknowledge with deep appreciation the great sacrifice that the men and women of the United States Armed Forces make for the ideals of freedom and justice which are so richly enjoyed in this nation; and

Whereas, answering the call of his country to serve with the 228th Signal Brigade of the South Carolina Air National Guard in Afghanistan, Sergeant Stephen C. High left his family and home in Spartanburg, South Carolina; and

Whereas, on April 6, 2005, at the age of forty-five, Sergeant High lost his life in Afghanistan for the cause of freedom; and

Whereas, he was a member of the Spartanburg-headquartered 228th Signal Brigade, a National Guard unit that provides high tech satellite communications for American forces. Sergeant High was a fifteen-year veteran of the Navy before joining the National Guard and had volunteered for Afghanistan; and

Whereas, there is no greater or braver sacrifice than for a man to lay down his life for his country; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly takes great honor to remember the life and sacrifice of one of South Carolina's brave sons and heroes, Sergeant Stephen C. High; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly would like to express to the parents and family of Sergeant High their grateful appreciation for his life, his sacrifice, and his service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and remember the supreme sacrifice made by Sergeant Stephen C. High of the South Carolina Air National Guard, while he was serving a tour of military duty in Afghanistan, and express to his parents and family the deepest appreciation of a grateful state and nation for his life, sacrifice, and service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to his parents, Jean and Eugene High.
