A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MONICA C. BRISBON, BUSINESS EDUCATION TEACHER AT CAROLINA FOREST HIGH SCHOOL IN HORRY COUNTY, FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Monica C. Brisbon, business education teacher at Carolina Forest High School in Horry County, is committed to the success of her students and to positive development of her community; and

Whereas, in preparation for her life's work, this Green Sea native earned a dual bachelor's degree in management and marketing at Coastal Carolina University and later completed her master's degree in business administration at Webster University. In 2006, she began the process of earning certification to teach business education and now holds a professional teaching certificate; and

Whereas, prior to assuming her teaching duties, Ms. Brisbon gained valuable work experience as a store manager, a national sales assistant, an account manager, and a substitute teacher, all of which would better enable her to help her future students. Viewing teaching as an excellent opportunity to offer positive guidance to young people, with whom she tremendously enjoys working, Ms. Brisbon embraced her new calling as a teacher and immersed herself in her new duties; and

Whereas, today, as a business education teacher, her chief focus is ensuring students the opportunity to gain the skills necessary for a smooth transition into post-secondary institutions and productive employment, a process she enriches and expedites by sharing her real-world business experiences; and

Whereas, Ms. Brisbon seeks to promote the growth of her students both in and out of the classroom. She is co-sponsor of the National Technical Honor Society and has served as the head junior-varsity girls basketball coach for three years. After school, she hosts a program for students who do not have access to computers or who need extra assistance with work; and

Whereas, believing all citizens should be actively involved in their communities, Monica C. Brisbon is a member of the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Nichols, where she coordinates programs and directs a youth choir and praise dance ministry and is a member of the Young Women's Auxiliary. A leader in the Concerned Citizens Outreach, she was recently nominated for the vice presidency of this organization, and she is a new member of Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Friends; and

Whereas, when asked to speak, Ms. Brisbon always allows the youth with whom she is working to accompany her, giving them an opportunity to increase their social and networking skills such as they might not be offered anywhere else; and

Whereas, looking to the future, she hopes one day to own and operate a nonprofit organization that assists people to make a better living while at the same time helping others; and

Whereas, appreciative of her exemplary work among her students and community, the General Assembly wishes to recognize and commend Ms. Brisbon and offer best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Monica C. Brisbon, business education teacher at Carolina Forest High School in Horry County, for her outstanding contributions to her school and community.
