A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR BISHOP CARDELL SUTTON OF GASTON, FOUNDER OF KINGDOM COVENANT FELLOWSHIP INTERNATIONAL, INCORPORATED, FOR HIS TWENTY-FOUR YEARS OF PASTORAL MINISTRY, AND TO DECLARE MARCH 18, 2010, "BISHOP CARDELL SUTTON DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina General Assembly honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to succor the souls of men; and

Whereas, Bishop Cardell Sutton of Gaston, founder of Kingdom Covenant Fellowship International, Incorporated, stands among their number as an outstanding minister of the Gospel and servant to his community, one much admired by colleagues, congregation, and area residents at large; and

Whereas, born in Swansea to Gary and Queen Sutton, Bishop Sutton was one of four siblings. He has been married to Carolyn Pough Sutton for almost thirty-seven years, and together they raised a fine family of three children, Rhonda, Carla, and Quincy, who have given their parents the joy of three grandchildren; and

Whereas, having graduated from Monroe Pinckney High School, in 1968 he was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He then continued his education at Columbia Junior College, graduating in 1978 with an associate degree in business management and later earning a bachelor's degree and master's degree in biblical studies; and

Whereas, Bishop Sutton has also served as a licensed professional barber for thirty years and a master barber trainer for nineteen years; and

Whereas, over his twenty-four years as a pastor, he has served numerous churches in various capacities. In 1989, he founded and pastored New Life Outreach Ministries, a nondenominational church in Swansea. Further, he has served Fuller's Temple in Anderson, Open Fountain in Summerton, Mt. Everest Christian Worship Center in Barnwell, New Hope Deliverance Temple in Columbia, Glover Chapel Restoration Church in Swansea, New Hope Deliverance Center in Columbia, and Sounds of Praise Pentecostal Fellowship Ministries, Incorporated, in the Columbia/Charleston District, in addition to his present position as founder of Kingdom Covenant Fellowship International, Incorporated; and

Whereas, believing a pastor should be involved in his community beyond the walls of the church, Bishop Sutton has been instrumental in hosting a biannual community event that provides free food for five to seven hundred people. Among other charitable activities, he also sponsors a weekly rehabilitation program for those who seek to become free of alcohol and other drugs; and

Whereas, noted as a humble, courageous man of Christian character, one of whom it truly may be said, "Well done, good and faithful servant," Bishop Sutton has demonstrated to others how to be "steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord"; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to honor Bishop Cardell Sutton's dedicated service as both spiritual and civic leader, and the members wish him God's richest blessings as he continues to serve the Lord. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Bishop Cardell Sutton of Gaston, founder of Kingdom Covenant Fellowship International, Incorporated, for his twenty-four years of pastoral ministry, and declare March 18, 2010, "Bishop Cardell Sutton Day" in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Bishop Cardell Sutton.
