A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR KARA GORMLEY AS SHE LEAVES WIS TELEVISION, AND TO WISH HER SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly learned with sincere regret that Kara Gormley will leave WIS television where she has served the Midlands as a journalist for over a decade; and

Whereas, a native of Carthage, New York, and the daughter of Robert Ambrose Gormley and the late Barbara Gormley, she served as a co-host on WIS News 10 Sunrise program when she first came to Columbia in 1996; and

Whereas, she later moved to the evenings as the WIS News 10 at 5 anchor and served as a featured health reporter on WIS News 10 at 6; and

Whereas, in 2000, she relocated to Raleigh where she anchored the morning news for the NBC affiliate on channel 17 until she married in 2002 and returned to the Midlands and to WIS as the weekend anchor and weekday reporter; and

Whereas, believing that God has repeatedly put her in a position to tell people's stories so that she might help others, she has dedicated her time and skill to assist such organizations as the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Special Olympics South Carolina, Project Pet, Sistercare, Camp Kemo, the Children's Miracle Network, and Palmetto Health Children's Hospital; and

Whereas, she actively assists Winston's Wish, a foundation for children with autism, and the National Safety Council's "Alive at 25" program, designed to modify unsafe driving tendencies of drivers twenty-five and under; and

Whereas, for her exceptional talent, hard work, and dedication as a broadcast journalist, not only have her stories received recognition from the Associated Press and the South Carolina Broadcasters Association, but she has also earned the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award of Excellence; and

Whereas, she proudly contributed to Faces of Freedom, a book which profiles fallen heroes who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, and all the proceeds of the book will go to charities that benefit military families; and

Whereas, formerly a competitive swimmer and scholarship athlete, she helped to create and promote Limitless Sports, an organization dedicated to strengthening the athletic skills and recreational enjoyment of wheelchair-bound children and adults; and

Whereas, she is a devoted wife and full-time mother, and together with her beloved husband, Banks Meador, a native of Chester, she is raising three fine sons, Dalton, Evan, and Cooper; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the dedication and commitment that Kara Gormley has brought to the field of broadcast journalism and for her compassionate and professional service to the citizens of our great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Kara Gormley as she leaves WIS television, and wish her success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Kara Gormley.
