A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND CYNTHIA PRYOR HARDY OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives honor individuals who freely give of their time and resources for the good of others; and

Whereas, Cynthia Pryor Hardy, award-winning journalist, has contributed valuable community service to the citizens of the Palmetto State and is thereby worthy of praise; and

Whereas, in preparation for her multifaceted career in communications, she earned her bachelor's degree in English at Columbia College; and

Whereas, Ms. Hardy began her career in communications in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, working as a radio and television journalist for eight years. She was voted Best Reporter in the State by United Press International before changing career paths to public relations. Cynthia relocated to South Carolina after accepting a position with the Urban League, where she eventually served as the organization's vice president for communications and program development for more than fifteen years; and

Whereas, currently owner and host of the number-one weekly radio news talk show in South Carolina, OnPoint! with Cynthia Hardy, now in its eighth year, Ms. Hardy is also vice president of Maxim Communications Group, a Columbia advertising agency; and

Whereas, firmly believing in community involvement, Cynthia Hardy is currently on the board of trustees for her alma mater, Columbia College. She served as vice chairman of the Columbia Development Corporation Board of Directors and chairman of the Richland One Middle College Foundation Board and was a member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church Board of Stewards; and

Whereas, in addition, she gives of her time in service to the City of Columbia Hospitality Tax Committee and the Girl Scouts of South Carolina Board of Directors; and

Whereas, she has not gone unappreciated but has received numerous awards and citations for her work in both communications and community service; and

Whereas, understanding that Ms. Hardy will celebrate her birthday on February 13, the House of Representatives wishes to take this opportunity to wish her many happy returns; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Cynthia Hardy who use their talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Cynthia Pryor Hardy of Richland County for her outstanding community service to the people of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Cynthia Pryor Hardy.
