A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 2-17-55 SO AS TO PROHIBIT THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR FROM EXPENDING PUBLIC FUNDS TO HIRE OR CONTRACT WITH A PERSON WHOSE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE LOBBYING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 17, Title 2 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 2-17-55.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, it is unlawful for the Office of the Governor to expend public funds in order to hire or contract with a person whose activities include lobbying the General Assembly."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
