VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 41-1-120 SO AS TO PROHIBIT AN INDIVIDUAL'S CREDIT SCORE FROM BEING THE BASIS OF ANY PERSONNEL ACTION, AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 41 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 41-1-120. An individual's credit score must not be the basis of any personnel action, including, but not limited to, employment, termination, demotion, or promotion of an employee. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than ten nor more than fifty dollars or be imprisoned not less than ten nor more than thirty days."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
