A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR REBECCA ROBBINS OF AIKEN COUNTY UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE AIKEN COUNTY COMMISSION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION, TO THANK HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

Whereas, since 2001, the Aiken County Commission for Higher Education has enjoyed the benefit of the dedication, experience, and leadership of member Rebecca Robbins, who will retire from her post on June 30, 2013, after many years of service; and

Whereas, appointed to serve by Governor Jim Hodges on the recommendation of Senator Greg Ryberg, Ms. Robbins, during her tenure on the Aiken County Commission for Higher Education, has felt privileged to become aware of the needs of USC Aiken and its faculty and staff; and

Whereas, because she strongly believes in active participation in community life, Rebecca Robbins is a charter member of Sand River Woman's Club, which she has served as president, vice president, board member, and education chair. In addition, she sits on the Rose Hill Art Center Board and is a founding member of the Aiken Center for the Arts, for the latter serving as board chair and in various other positions during her three terms of office; and

Whereas, this lifetime member of the Girls Scouts of the USA is also a troop leader, day-camp director, and board member for the Scouts' Central Savannah River Area. Ms. Robbins serves the other end of the age spectrum as a board member for the Council on Aging (fund development); and

Whereas, as a woman of faith, she worships at St. John's Methodist Church, where she has served as a choir member for thirty years; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for Ms. Robbins' many years of faithfulness in serving the people of South Carolina, takes great pleasure in commending her for her contributions to education in this great State, especially in Aiken County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Rebecca Robbins of Aiken County upon the occasion of her retirement from the Aiken County Commission for Higher Education, thank her for her many years of outstanding public service, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.
